PROJECT INFORMATION
Comfort Joy Farmhouse
Comfort and Joy Farmhouse was designed as a warm, welcoming retreat—one that supports everyday living while making space for quiet moments and small gatherings. Located in Thurston County, this farmhouse rambler was created for a client who wanted a peaceful home where she could comfortably host friends and family, while also enjoying time on her own. As an interior designer in Olympia, WA, our focus was on durability, ease of care, and creating a home that feels truly lived in.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The layout was opened up by removing existing soffits, instantly increasing ceiling height and allowing for taller, more functional kitchen cabinetry. This shift helped the home feel lighter and more spacious without losing its cozy farmhouse character. Materials and finishes were selected with daily use in mind—easy to maintain, resilient, and well-suited to a home shared with both people and pets.
- Waterproof wood-look flooring throughout the home for durability and low maintenance.
- Removal of soffits to create a more open feel and support taller kitchen cabinetry.
- Fully furnished and decorated by HC Spec + Design, including the addition of a “cuddle room” designed as a personal retreat for yoga, reading, and quiet moments.
Wide-plank waterproof luxury vinyl flooring grounds the space, paired with maple cabinetry and MSI Carrara Breve quartz countertops fabricated and installed by Premiere Stone and Quartz. The hall bathroom features a Vintage Lace wood-look tile wall and a gray crackle-finish subway tile shower surround. A custom masonry woodstove surround and hearth anchors the living area, complemented by a hand-hewn solid white maple fireplace mantle. Power-banded window shades by Bali add privacy and ease throughout the home.
Comfort and Joy Farmhouse is a reflection of how thoughtful design can support both connection and solitude. With easy-care surfaces, performance furnishings, and spaces designed for rest and gathering alike, the home now offers exactly what the client hoped for—comfort, calm, and a place that feels deeply personal. Projects like this capture the heart of our interior design work in Olympia and across Thurston County: homes that are practical, welcoming, and genuinely rewarding to live in.
